Waynard Scheller & Rainbow Full of Sound kick off ‘Euro ’72 Tour’

This past Friday evening, the German American Society of Trenton hosted Waynard Scheller and Rainbow Full of Sound; marking the first installation of the band’s ‘Retracing Europe 72′ Tour’. Accompanied by Nate Graham (Midnight North) on drums, the band played late into the evening, retracing the Dead’s performance from May 7, 1972 at The Bickershaw Festival in Wigan, England. Scheller hopes to recreate the entire tour over an expanse of 21 shows, accurately recreating the setlist from each night.

Tucked away from the road and behind the German American Society ball fields lies Cis’s Grove aka The Biergarten which features domestic and craft beers selections, a local food truck, and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the music. People spread out among the various picnic tables available in the Biergarten and admired the canopy of trees and string lights above.

The band played two full sets; omitting Love Light from the original setlist from May 7, 1972 and ending the show just a few minutes past midnight. The next two stops of the tour will be held on May 22, 2021 at the Asbury-Wall Elks in Neptune City, NJ and on May 25, 2021 at Donovan’s Reef Beachfront in Seabright, NJ.
