This past Saturday yielded a smaller turnout than usual for Ed Rocks Outdoor Listening Room due to some supposed inclement weather. Word of rain for the extent of Mother’s Day Weekend meant that only 12-15 Heads were in attendance for friends and musicians, Jesse Bardwell, Bob and Harry Noble, and Trevor Newcomb.
Bob Noble began the first set on the upright bass while Harry and Jesse played acoustic guitar and Trevor took a seat on the box drum; a chill accompaniment to the light rain. As Bob Noble remarks in this set, “It’s good grass growing weather, so it must be good for hanging out.”
Ed and Lois, the genius and proprietors of Ed Rocks, simply told us Saturday that “people missed out,” and boy were they right. The band played two rockin’ sets of classic folk, blues and Americana tunes including Grateful Dead, Jerry Reed, CCR, and several originals by Bardwell and Bob Noble.
Part way through their first set, the band switched to all electric and chased the remaining clouds and drizzle away. The crowd came out from beneath their umbrellas and hoods to soak up the warm sunshine as the band played into the afternoon. Their performance was an absolute treat for those folks who braved the weather and I’m sure those who didn’t won’t miss out next time!
